Scott Brandon Neilson, 38, from Fairview, Utah. I am passionate about education and the opportunities a quality education can give our young people. And as a future member of the State Board I will work for a locally controlled education system that sets high standards and is not beholden to federal bureaucracy or common core. Generally speaking Utah has done well, but we can and must do better by empowering parents and attracting the best qualified educators into Utah classrooms. I believe Utah's continued economic success and prosperity is dependent on our education system, and I support Governor Herbert's call for prioritizing education, including STEM. About me, I love America and our beloved Constitution. I believe the foundation of positive change is through service. I currently teach U.S. History and Government at Maple Mountain High School in Spanish Fork. I earned a Bachelors of Science degree from UVU in 2006 and completed a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Brigham Young University in 2015. I am a veteran of the Armed Forces and served as a battle captain in the 101st Airborne during OEF, Afghanistan, 2012-13. My wife Camille and I have four children and reside in Spanish Fork, Utah.
