Securing Your Mail Ballot
Did you know? Utah has been voting by mail for over a decade. It is a proven, secure, and accessible way to vote. Read the guide below to understand the process.
1
How does vote by mail work?
Your county clerk uses various security and privacy measures to ensure that your mail ballot is secret and counted accurately. Watch this short video that explains their process:
2
Do I have to mail my ballot?
No. If you prefer not to use the USPS, you have other secure options:
- Drop Box: Drop your ballot off at a secure drop box. Find locations here.
- In-Person: Drop it off at an early voting location or on Election Day. Find a polling place.
⚠️ Deadline Alert: If you use a drop box, your ballot must be dropped off before 8:00 pm on Election Day.
3
What if my signature doesn’t match?
Your county election officials compare the signature on your ballot envelope with your previous voting records.
If there is a mismatch, you will be notified. You will receive an opportunity to submit an affidavit (a “cure letter”) to confirm your identity. Once received, your ballot will be counted.
