Judges

Know more about judges before you vote

There are several ways to get to this new information, including thorough evaluations on judges throughout the State of Utah:

What does it all mean?

Have you ever felt frustrated because you didn't know enough about the judges or didn't have the information you needed to make a good decision?

If so, you're not alone.

The State of Utah is hoping to change that with the creation of the Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission (JPEC) and the implementation of this web site.

In all even-numbered years, the voters of Utah have the opportunity to choose whether or not judges should keep their jobs for another term in office. By reviewing the performance evaluation reports found on this web site, you will have the information you need to decide whether each judge should be retained in office for another term.

Here are some of the things you can learn on this site:

  • How attorneys, court staff, and jurors rated each judge;
  • How courtroom observers - laypersons like you - evaluated each judge;
  • Whether the Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission recommended that the judge be retained in office.
